INDIANAPOLIS – Three members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team received All-League honors when awards were announced by the League Office Friday morning. Senior Jaime Montero and sophomores Yanni Patten and Aaron Saal earned All-Crossroads League Honorable Mention recognition for their play this season.
Montero started in 53 contests for the Cougars this season, batting 0.380 with 71 hits, 45 RBI and six home runs to go with 32 walks. Montero hit his way into the MVNU record books, breaking the MVNU single-game record for runs batted in, which had stood for over 30 seasons, tallying nine RBI against Bethel College. Montero also tied the single-game home run record with his three blasts in the same game at Bethel.
Patten finished the season batting 0.389, good for the third-best average in the Crossroads League. Patten tallied 56 hits with 35 RBI and 33 walks despite missing time with an injury earlier in the season.
Saal played in all 57 of MVNU's games, batting 0.355 with a team-leading 75 hits, fourth most in the Crossroads League. Saal had a team-high 23 doubles, breaking the MVNU single season doubles record against OSU Lima and trailing only Nathan Targgart of Taylor for most in the League. Saal hit five home runs and snagged 12 stolen bases for the Cougars.
MVNU finished the season with an overall record of 33-24, finishing fourth in the final Crossroads League standings.
