MARION, Ind. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene men's cross country team traveled to Indiana Wesleyan for the Twilight Classic on Friday, posting times good enough for 7th out of 10 teams.
It was a competitive race with many Crossroads League members involved, providing a measuring stick for the team moving forward.
"This was an exciting way to start out our 8K racing season," said Head Coach Chip Wilson. "Eight Crossroads League members were involved and it gave us an opportunity to see where we stand at this early stage in the season. We were missing a key member of our team in Jacob Lofton, but we had runners step up to help with the scoring. We did learn some things that will be helpful for us as we continue to train this month. I am looking forward to being back in action next week at Otterbein."
Senior Darian Pacula once again set the pace for the Cougars, finishing in 18th place overall with a time of 26:52 for the 8K.
Noah Menuez was next in line, crossing the finish with the 34th overall best time of 27:24. Brennan Crawford and De-Andre Steward finished with times of 27:47 and 27:56, respectively, while Nick Weiss rounded out the top five with a time of 28:47.
There was a gap of 1 minute and 55 seconds separating the team's top five runners, and that gap will be one that they set out to continue to decrease as the season continues.
MVNU will next run on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 10:45 a.m., at the Otterbein College Invitational in Westerville, Ohio.
