MARION, Ind. – At the Indiana Wesleyan Twilight Classic on Friday, Sept. 8, the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's cross country ran its way to a fifth place finish out of ten teams.
It was a competitive race with many Crossroads League members involved, providing a measuring stick for the team moving forward.
Rachel Gerber came across the line first for MVNU with a time of 19:08, which placed her 12th overall in the field.
Just 1:29 separated the top seven MVNU runners in their second outing of 2017.
"The depth of our women's team showed today as we had 11 girls under 21 minutes at this early stage in the season," said Head Coach Chip Wilson. "Our goal now will be to continue pushing each other in practice and working together to keep our packs tight while dropping time. I was extremely proud of the competitiveness I saw from our Lady Cougars today. I look forward to our next race at Otterbein."
No. 14 Taylor University went on to win the race, while the individual winner was Ariel Arellano-Young of Ohio Christian with a time of 18:04.3
