UPLAND, Ind. – Coming off a 2-0 win at home against Marian University, the Cougars looked to win a third straight on the road at Taylor University.
The Cougars coming into tonight's game had won two in a row, outscoring opponents by an impressive 8-0 margin. The Cougars came into this match a confident team, and they were able to keep the momentum rolling in this 3-2 overtime win.
The Trojans would get on the board first with a goal at the 20:04 mark in the first half. The Cougars would answer right back at the 34:28 mark with a goal from freshman Hunter Petrosky from the right side of the field to tie the game 1-1.
The back and forth battle would continue in the second half. Thirty seconds after a Taylor goal to put the Trojans up 2-1, sophomore Connor Davis responded with the equalizer from 25 yards out at the 80:40 mark in the match. Davis, who is not a stranger to putting the ball in the back of the net, came through in the clutch when the Cougars needed him most. Davis' game tying goal would set up overtime, where the Cougars would win on a Gerardo Rivas goal, off an assist from Matt Roldan.
Head Coach Zach Ganzberg was very pleased with his team's fight after their 3-2 victory on the road.
"What an awesome game for our guys" said Ganzberg. "Easy things don't bring people together, so we loved grinding and earning the result. I'm proud of the resiliency shown and the commitment to our core values: those are the things that make a difference".
The Cougars (7-4, 2-0-0 CL) will look to increase their winning streak to 4 games on October, 7, under the lights at Mount Vernon High school against Indiana Wesleyan University.
