MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The visiting Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats scored two second half goals to earn their opening Crossroads League win of 2017, 2-0 over Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer.
The Cougars entered the contest confidently having won three straight matches headed into the matchup, but the loss dropped MVNU to 2-1-0 in Crossroads League play.
The first half was played relatively evenly with few opportunities to score for each team.
Indiana Wesleyan's Carlos Chacon however opened the scoring less than a minute into the second half, collecting a Gabe Quesada pass in front of the frame of goal before spinning and finishing with his right foot into the upper corner of the far post.
MVNU would pressure throughout the game to try and find the equalizer, committing more and more players up the field.
As the clock dwindled however, few quality opportunities arose and the Wildcats were able to score a final goal with just one second remaining on the clock from Will McComb on a breakout.
Indiana Wesleyan finished the match with 13 shots to 11 for Mount Vernon Nazarene. Adam Wick earned the shutout for Indiana Wesleyan with two saves, while Adam Miller took the loss for the Cougars despite making four stops.
Following the setback, MVNU (7-5-0, 2-1-0 CL) will look to get back on track when it begins a three-game road stretch, which starts on Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. against Saint Francis (3-9, 0-3 CL).
