INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Coming off an exciting 2-1 upset victory over No. 21 ranked Taylor University on Wednesday, the Cougars went on the road to face another ranked opponent in No. 17 Marian.
This match would be a competitive one throughout, with Marian coming out on top 2-1. With the Cougars trailing 2-0, sophomore Amberly Knox got the Cougars on the board with a lob shot from 30 yards out at the 65:44 mark in the second half to cut the deficit. However, this would prove to be as close as MVNU would get on the scoreboard, as the Marian defense held up over the final minutes.
For the game MVNU had nine shot attempts, and had four shots on goal. Knox would lead the Cougars with two attempts, while eight others had one shot attempt each. Marian would control the number of shots on the day with 14 attempts and six shots on goal.
Head Coach Daniel Seiffert was satisfied with his team's effort against another ranked opponent, but knows that they must be more consistent and keep trusting the process.
"Tonight was quite the interesting night," stated Seiffert. "I thought we came out and battled hard but we didn't put an entire 90 minutes together. There were moments where we possessed well and created opportunities, but credit to Marian, they are a strong and well coached team. This is the third straight match against a ranked opponent and it was a competitive one. We will look to learn from this and get back to work quickly as we continue to focus on the process."
MVNU (7-3-1, 1-1-1 CL) will look to bounce back on Oct. 11 against the University of Saint Francis on the road at 7:00 pm.
