AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League recently announced its 2017-2018 Women's Basketball Preseason All-Crossroads League Teams and Preseason Poll, with Sierra Basista and Dani Ellerbrock each receiving recognition.
The teams and poll were voted upon by the ten Crossroads League coaches, and the full Crossroads League release is provided above.
Basista was named to the Preseason All-Crossroads League Third Team. The senior guard from Mount Vernon, Ohio averaged 11.4 points per game for the Cougars in 2016-2017, and was additionally second on the team in assists with 69 on the year. The sharpshooter shot 38.1 percent from three-point territory, leading the team from beyond the arc with 147 converted three-point attempts.
Ellerbrock was named to the Honorable Mention Preseason All-Crossroads League team. The sophomore point guard from Ottawa, Ohio enters her second season at MVNU after an impactful freshman campaign. Ellerbrock was named to the Crossroads League All-Freshman Team in 2016-2017, a season in which she started all 30 games to average 10.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and slightly over 3.7 assists per game.
MVNU was selected to finish in seventh of the ten teams, coming off last season's mark of 13-17 overall and 7-11 in the Crossroads League, which placed them in a tie for seventh place with Bethel and Goshen.
The Cougars have improved in every season thus far for third year Head Coach Amanda Short, and will open the 2017-2018 season at home on Oct. 28 against Asbury. Tip for that game will be at 4 p.m. in Ariel Arena.
