MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Just as in the last meeting between the Bethel Pilots and Mount Vernon Nazarene University volleyball, the match went the distance to five sets. This time however the Pilots prevailed, coming all the way back from two sets down on their home court.
MVNU was able to claim the opening two sets, hitting efficiently and winning the key points.
Bethel however turned the tide drastically in the fourth and the fifth set, setting the stage for what was a back and forth fifth.
MVNU grabbed the early lead in the deciding set, but Bethel fought back to earn four match points, all of which were staved off by the Cougars. With it tied up at 17-17, Bethel would earn two consecutive kills to seal the come-from-behind victory.
Hitting statistics were relatively comparable for both teams, but the biggest Bethel advantage came in the block category. The Pilots were credited with 15 total blocks to just three for the Cougars.
Osborn additionally had 13 digs, and Maria Kolinoff added 11 for the Cougar cause in defeat.
MVNU (16-12, 4-8 CL) is next scheduled to host Spring Arbor (8-17, 2-10 CL) on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. in Ariel Arena.
