MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (16-19, 8-16 CL) finished its home series against (RV) Marian University (26-9, 19-5 CL) with another doubleheader at the Cougar Baseball Field on Saturday, April 4.
MVNU fell behind 0-4 early but cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third after Ryan Willoughby hit an RBI-double to left field that scored Carter Lapata and Andrew Hobbs. Unfortunately for MVNU, Marian's offense erupted in the top of the fourth inning. The Knights scored eight runs, taking a 12-2 lead after four. The Knights continued to pile on and would go on to win 17-4.
Marian stayed hot in game two and put the game away early with an 11 run first inning. The Knights collected 12 hits total and would win by a final of 18-2. Brady Lester had a solid day at the plate for MVNU as he smashed his fifth home run of the season. Jakob Coxen pitched a strong game out of the bullpen for MVNU, allowing just two hits and no runs in 2.1 innings pitched. Coxen had three strikeouts.

MVNU returns to Cougar Field on Tuesday, April 7 against the University of Michigan-Dearborn. The doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m.
