Three Men’s Basketball Players Earn All-Crossroads League Team Honors

JACKSON, Mich. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's basketball team had three players earn All-Crossroads League honors after a strong season finishing with a record of 17-12 overall and 9-9 in the Crossroads League. 

Peyton Heiss, a sophomore guard, earned First Team All-Crossroads League honors. Heiss scored an average of 15.6 points per game and shot an average of 44.4% from the field and 39.0% from the three-point line. Heiss ranked tied for third in the Crossroads League for his free-throw percentage of 87.5 after playing 29 games. Heiss hit his career-high this season in the 93-84 win against Goshen, after scoring 32 points.  

Isaiah Brown, a sophomore forward, was honored with Second Team All-Crossroads League honors. Brown ranked third in the Crossroads League in points per game, scoring 18 points per game after playing 25 games for the Cougars. Brown shot 48.8% from the field, 30.6% from the three-point line, and 74.6% from the free-throw line. 

Trent Koning, a fifth-year senior, earned Second Team All-Crossroads League honors. Koning was a defensive and offensive threat for the Cougars. Koning, after playing in 29 games, ranked third in the Crossroads League for steals with 48 total and ranked tied for third with Heiss for his free-throw percentage of 87.5. Koning averaged 13.1 per game, shot 42.3% from the field, and shot 38.5% from the three-point line. Koning is finishing his career, after earning a spot on the Crossroads League All-Freshman team, earning two All-Crossroads League Honorable Mentions, and surpassing his 1,000 career points in his junior year and nearing 1,500 points.
