Men’s Lacrosse Falls to No. 5 Cumberlands
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's lacrosse team (5-2) hosted No. 5 University of the Cumberlands (2-2) at CH4 Stadium on Saturday, March 7.
Zechariah Gee won the faceoff for MVNU, which led to an Ethan Haney goal, assisted by Colton McKee early in the first quarter. Cumberlands would answer scoring six consecutive goals, going up 6-1. The Cougars would score three more goals to bring the score still in Cumberlands favor 7-4, going into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Cougars would only manage to score one goal, which was scored by Dylan Haynes in a man-up situation and assisted by Sawyer Byington. Cumberlands would build on the lead and go into the half up 12-5.
A man-up goal by Haney after an assist from Byington would start the Cougars offense in the second half of the game. However, Cumberlands would not let up, adding five more goals to bring the score going into the fourth 17-7. MVNU would once again come out scoring quick at the start of the quarter, after a goal by Colton McKee, which was followed by a man-up goal by Chase Lawler, bringing the score to 17-9. Another Cougar goal by Connor Kistner put MVNU at double digits, but the effort was not enough. Cumberlands went on to win 18-10.
Haney led the MVNU offense with three goals. Kistner and Lawler each scored two goals and provided one assist. Haynes also added two goals, and McKee added one goal and one assist. Vaughan Hawkins faced 39 shots in goal and came away with 21 saves. MVNU had 28 shots on goal and 30 ground balls. The Cougars went 23 for 29 on clears and caused Cumberlands to have 19 turnovers.

The Cougars will next face Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri on Tuesday, March 10 at 5:00 p.m.
