Cougars Quick Start Leads to Win Over Point
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's lacrosse team (9-3) traveled to face Point University (6-6) at a neutral location in Lexington, Kentucky on Thursday, April 2.
In the first quarter, MVNU got off to a quick start taking a 7-1 lead over Point. Point attempted to close the lead down in the second quarter by scoring four, but the Cougars scored two more goals, maintaining the lead 9-5.
MVNU, in the third quarter, scored three more goals while Point also scored three more goals, bringing the score to 12-8. The Cougars extended the lead once again in the fourth quarter and would go on to win with a score of 14-12.
Dylan Haynes led MVNU, scoring five goals. Chase Lawler added four goals and one assist for MVNU. Connor Kistner had two goals and one assist. Zechariah Gee won 18 out of 25 faceoffs for the Cougars. MVNU had 12 out of 20 good clears. In goal for MVNU, Vaughan Hawkins secured 18 saves and tied the program record for most saves in a season.
What's Next
The Cougars will play in the last game of the season on the road against La Roche College on Saturday, April 11 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The game will start at 2:30 p.m.
