Men’s Volleyball Stumbles against Cumberland

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's volleyball team (7-5) hosted Cumberland University (5-7) in Ariel Arena on Tuesday, March 3.

MVNU got off to a slow start, falling behind 5-12 in the first set. The Phoenix remained ahead and built its lead even more and would take set one 25-15. The Cougars answered in set two, responding with a 25-21 win to even the match. Cumberland took set three 25-22, before winning a tightly contested fourth set by a final score of 29-27. Cumberland would defeat the Cougars in Ariel Arena in four sets.

Despite the loss, MVNU outhit the Phoenix. MVNU had a .326 hitting percentage compared to .308 for Cumberland. MVNU had 57 kills to 51 for the Phoenix. Ethan Cline had 19 kills on a .444 hitting percentage, both of which were team-highs. Tommy Tierney had 12 kills and seven digs, while Jackson Bush had nine kills, four digs, and two blocks. Jaxson Snell had 32 assists and seven digs. Austin Kolaczkowski had 14 assists.

 

What's Next

MVNU plays at home on Friday, March 6 against Indiana Tech in a WHAC matchup. First serve is at 2:00 p.m.
