WHAC Announces Men’s Volleyball Honors, Coach Sherer Wins Champion of Character Coach for Sixth Consecutive Year
LIVONIA, Mich. – The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference announced its All-Conference honors for the 2026 men's volleyball season and the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's volleyball team garnered several honorees.
For the sixth consecutive year, head coach Doug Sherer was named as the WHAC's Champion of Character Coach. Sherer once again exemplified the five core values that the NAIA embraces, which are integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant-leadership. Tyler Monnin also showed these characteristics on and off the court for the men's volleyball program and was named as a member of the WHAC Champion of Character Team. The junior libero from Xenia, Ohio had 107 digs over the course of the season.
Tommy Tierney made the All-Freshman team and was also named second team All-Conference after a great first season. The Cincinnati, Ohio native averaged 2.66 kills and 1.92 digs per set. He had 234 total kills.
Noah Wineberg joined Tierney on the second team. Wineberg, who is from Weirton, West Virginia, averaged 1.69 kills per set while hitting .258% as an OP. Wineberg was an anchor for the Cougars at the net defensively as he had 70 total blocks and finished his career with 200 total.
Ethan Cline also made the second team for MVNU. The junior outside hitter from Mount Vernon high school averaged a team high 3.09 kills per set while hitting .276 during the season. Cline also averaged 1.21 digs and registered 46 blocks.
The team represented MVNU well in the classroom as seven were named to the WHAC All-Academic Team. Xander Devault, Noah Wineberg, Jackson Bush, Monnin, Josiah Pletcher, Austin Kolaczkowski, and Cline each received the honor. Sophomores and above with a 3.25 cumulative GPA who have served a full year at their institution were eligible.
