Cougars Dominate Thiel in Season Opening Win

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's lacrosse team (1-0) began its 2026 season at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome against Thiel University on Saturday, January 31.

MVNU started the season with a dominant 24-4 win. The Cougars controlled the first half, entering halftime up17-0. Ethan Haney had a huge game, leading MVNU with seven goals. Dylan Haynes had seven assists to lead the Cougars along with a goal of his own. Connor Kistner scored three goals, and Chase Lawler had two goals and three assists. Sawyer Byington had four assists in the win.

Defensively, Trent Luptak had nine groundballs and Angelo Elia had seven. Zechariah Gee dominated, winning all 16 of his faceoff attempts. Vaughan Hawkins had three saves in goal for MVNU.

MVNU will play at Hiram College on Saturday, February 7 at 1:00 p.m.
